Solution to Medium chess puzzle 0004

At this puzzle, next move is by Black. The objective of the puzzle is to avoid checkmate in one move. Your knight at d6 is captured by the bishop and the bishop is not supported. You may be tempted to capture the bishop. This is a decoy which will divert your attention from the main issue. If you do not act, the opponent will have a checkmate on you byattcking the pawn at f7. This checkmate is called scholar’s mate.

You have several options to avoid the checkmate in one move. They are

1. Block the white queen access to the square f7. This can be achieved by moving the pawn at g file to g2.
2. Give aupport to the pawn at f7. This can be done by any of the two moves. They are
   • Move your queen to f6 or e7
