Solution to hard chess puzzle 0009
At this puzzle, next move is by White. The objective of the puzzle is to checkmate in 3 moves.
mate in 3 moves can be done by following these steps. You need to make two sacrifices
- You can not move your rook at e file which can give check to opponents king since it is pinned to your king by opponents queen. You need to un pin your rook. This can be done by moving tour queen to a5 and threatens the opponents queen.
- The opponents may be tempted to capture your queen since it is not supported. They will move their queen from b6 to capture your queen. This is called deflection sacrifice since you sacrificed tour queen from pulling a piece from its current square doing certain duty.
- Once your rook is unpinned, you can give a check by moving your rook along e file to e8.
- Your opponent will capture your rook. This is also another sacrifice. Now you can checkmate by moving your another rook since they are in a battery formation. This checkmate is also called back-rank checkmate since their king is blocked by friendly pieces.
